"Ah, the serenity..."

Having grown up on a farm in the Natal Midlands of South Africa, and then moving to the pristine coast of Western Australia, I've always been spoilt with beautiful surroundings. Living in the Bay Area is no exception. It has a beauty all of its own. One of the things I have yet to explore here however, are its charming getaways ~ those cute little places you can go for coffee on a Sunday afternoon, or the little B&Bs that have their own unique character.

One place I was surprised to find that fits that description is right in the middle of Berkeley. Not exactly your average "old country road" surroundings, being right in the center of student traffic to and from the university, Adagia is in a gorgeous old building, with latticed windows and the prettiest little garden out the front. Sitting by the window, overlooking the aromatic summer flowerbeds, and sipping hot chocolate from bowls, with a dollop of hazelnut whipped cream on the side... As Darryl Kerrigan, of The Castle would say, "Ah, the serenity of the place!"

Look out for more posts on charming places to go with your sweetheart in the Bay Area!
