This year has given my family a number of good reasons to celebrate. My grandpa Guppa turned eighty in July, and then last week my cousin Davy got engaged! Today is my grandma Gummor's birthday, yet another reason to celebrate and thank God for his goodness to us. My Gummor is very special to me for the many hours we spent together in South Africa. She taught me, among many things, that "nothing worthwhile was ever easy" and that has often given me encouragement because her life has certainly borne out that truth. Having lost the full use of her left arm and leg in her 20's, she was still able to superbly raise five wonderful children, and then later give so much to her thirteen grandchildren. It was Gummor who taught me to play both tennis and the piano and who gave me a love for reading and singing. Most of all though, I'm thankful to the Lord for the love my grandma has shown me. She has always been there for me and continues to be a huge encouragement and blessing to all who know her. Happy birthday Gummor!!(Photo by Trish Phipson)
